One of the most famous stripes of water across the world, the Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong is both a beautiful and busy place, separating the hub of Hong Kong Island from the mainland of Hong Kong with plenty of sea traffic. While it is more because of the skyscrapers and landscape surrounding the harbour that make it so spectacular, that’s no doubt that nothing would be quite the same without the 41.88 km² body of water in between. Let’s take a look at where you can best appreciate the view of the Victoria Harbour – be it day or night.

Day

Stars Avenue at Tsim Sha Tsui

Take advantage of the daylight hours and stroll along the Stars Avenue in Tsim Sha Tsui – where you get to hang out with the hand prints of many infamous people including Jet Li. There’s even an exhibition on Hong Kong movie industry history nearby!

Star Ferry

Once you got enough photos taken along the Stars Avenue, you can hop on the Star Ferry at the Tsim Sha Tsui pier and head on across to Central. Costing only a measly 2.3 HKD, you get to ride on the rustic old-school Ferry for ten minutes across the Victoria Harbour, giving you a great view along the way.

The Golden Bauhinia Square and Hong Kong Exhibition Centre

One of the most prominent buildings you will see as you take the Star Ferry is the Exhibition Centre – looking not dissimilar to the Sydney Opera House in the sense that it perches out slightly right along the coastline on the Hong Kong Island side. Right next to the Exhibition Centre is the Golden Bauhinia Square, which is definitely worth a visit in itself –  given that Bauhinia is the representative flower of Hong Kong. If you are determined enough – get there at 7:45 am and you can watch as they raise the flag.

Night

It would be a crime for you not to find a great viewing spot for the bright lights and colours that graces the night scene of Hong Kong.

Central Ferris Wheel

If you time your ride up the Ferris Wheel right, you might be able to caught the Symphony of Lights at 20:00, the largest light and sound show in the entire world.

Star ferry

If you are afraid of height or simply wants a more cost-effective way to view the Victoria Harbour at night, then you really should consider taking the Star Ferry again. I have nothing but good thing to say about this mode of transportation, although it is some walking distant away from the MTR stations.

The Peak

We can’t not mention the peak when we talk about a good panorama of the Victoria Harbour. The view up there at the viewing platform is arguable one of the most iconic of Hong Kong. It does cost you 30 HKD to go up there, but honestly, the view is so worth it.
