Neighbourhood Features
Lai Chi Kok is located in the northwest part of the Kowloon Peninsula and is the only community in Hong Kong that spans the boundary between Kowloon and the New Territories. In its early years, it was a remote area with Hakka villages.
Later, the reclamation of Lai Chi Kok Bay led to the development of residential and community facilities, gradually increasing the local population. Mei Foo Sun Chuen in the area is considered a symbol of Hong Kong entering a well-off society and has attracted many middle-class residents.
Currently, Lai Chi Kok has a large number of residential units, and community facilities have been developed to meet the needs of residents, including Lai Chi Kok Park, government offices, hospitals, and more. The area also features a cultural and creative shopping mall called D2 Place, serving as a gathering place for many young people, with various restaurants and creative shops.
In terms of transportation, the area relies on major roads such as Lai Chi Kok Road, Cheung Sha Wan Road, Lai King Hill Road, Eagle's Nest Tunnel and Sha Tin Heights Tunnel, providing convenient access to various districts in Hong Kong.
Residential Distribution
Residential areas in the area are mainly around Ching Cheung Road and Mei Foo Station. The residential areas around Ching Cheung Road are situated on higher elevation, close to Kam Shan Country Park, with lower building density and a tranquil environment. Private residences in this area include Wah Fung Garden, Nob Hill, Laichikok Bay Garden, Happy Villa, Greenwood Villas, Greenwood Regency, and Chung Shan Lodge, along with subsidised housing Lai Yan Court.
As for the residential area near Mei Foo Station, it borders Lai Chi Kok Park and has higher building density. It enjoys the convenience of the railway, with major private estates such as Mei Foo Sun Chuen, Manhattan Hill, and the HOS estate, Ching Lai Court.
