Yau Tong

Welcome to Yau Tong

Neighbourhood Features

Located in the southeast of Kowloon, Yau Tong has seen significant development since the 1960s when the government initiated the construction of multiple public housing estates in the Lei Yue Mun Road area. By 1998, with the decline of manufacturing industries, the Yau Tong Industrial Area began to transition into private residential projects. The government included Yau Tong in the Comprehensive Development Area, aiming to transform the coastal industrial zone into residential and recreational areas to enhance the local environment. The project includes the construction of a waterfront promenade, yacht center, hotels, and more.

To meet the rising population in the area, several shopping malls have been established, including Lei Yue Mun Plaza, Domain, and the estate malls in Yau Tong Centre, providing a diverse range of consumer options to meet the daily shopping needs of residents.

In terms of transportation, Yau Tong benefits from the convenience of the MTR Yau Tong Station, served by the Kwun Tong and Tseung Kwan O Lines. The area also has public transport interchanges with various bus and minibus routes connecting to different districts in Hong Kong, Kowloon, and the New Territories.

Residential Distribution

Residential areas are primarily concentrated in the city center and along the coastline. The city center features public housing estates such as Ko Yee Estate, Yau Tong Estate, and Ko Cheung Court, as well as Home Ownership Scheme estates like Ko Chun Court, Yau Chui Court, and Yau Mei Court. Additionally, there are private residential buildings in Yau Tong Centre, providing convenient access to the MTR station.

Along the coastline, the focus is on private residential developments with relatively newer buildings and clubhouse facilities. Examples include Canaryside, Chill Residence, Maya, Montego Bay, One East Coast, Ocean One, Peninsula East, and The Spectacle, offering unobstructed sea views and a comfortable living environment, albeit with a greater distance to the MTR station.
