Don’t know where Fortress Hill is? Find out what there is to do in this quiet area on Hong Kong Island!

Hong Kong Living | November 19, 2015

A lot of you probably don’t know where Fortress Hill is, since it’s predominantly a residential area. For those who don’t know, Fortress Hill is smack in the middle between Tin Hau and North Point. It may be a relatively small area, but there’s more than meets the eye of this neighbourhood. Try spending a day there and enjoy some peace and quiet on Hong Kong Island – who knows, maybe you’ll like it so much you’ll want to relocate there!

wo ping optical shop

Pull off that hipster look with the help of “Wo Ping” Optical Shop

Whether you need your glasses to see or just want them as a fashion statement, you can get some serious hipster glasses frames at “Wo Ping” Optical Shop located on Electric Road. The shop may look a little ghetto from the outside, but once you step in, you’ll get lost in time going through the wide range of retro glasses frames. The shopowner Ms. Tang is the true original hipster – this middle-aged lady is so trendy, you’ll want to be just like her!

oil street art space

Get your art on at Oil Street Art Space

Move over, PMQ – Soho isn’t the only artsy area around, you can check out the unpretentious art scene in Fortress Hill as well. Oil Street Art Space is a government organisation designed to spark a passion for art in the community. Normally people look at art passively, but the community encourages you to participate actively, such as taking photos with a wall that creates the illusion of people hanging off buildings, or writing down your flaws on a card and getting a free cup of Chinese herbal tea in return!

Fulfill your dim sum cravings at Michelin-starred Tim Ho Wan

If you’re sick of the crowds and waiting at the IFC branch, you can head over to the Fortress Hill branch of Tim Ho Wan. Located near City Garden Hotel, this branch is more spacious and since it’s less well known, there’ll be a shorter waiting time. Now you can get your dim sum fix at an affordable price and order what you want with the English menu!

Treat yourself to high tea and a magnetic seaview at le 188° Restaurant & Lounge

Peninsula Hotel is overrated – enjoy a luxurious afternoon tea session in Fortress HIll instead at le 188° Restaurant & lounge at Harbour Grand Hotel. Located on the 41st floor of the hotel, guests can enjoy a panoramic view of the Hong Kong Island and Kowloon harbour view at the same time. For those die hard romantics, we recommend heading over to the restaurant at around 5pm to catch the stunning sunset view.

lotus leisures spa

When two hands aren’t enough, you can get a four-handed massage at Lotus Leisures Massage Parlour

Are four-handed massage even possible? Lotus Leisures Massage Parlour is one of the few places in Hong Kong where you can enjoy this exclusive massage. If four hands is too much to handle for you, you can also choose the more conventional options, such as traditional Chinese full body of food massage. While you’re getting your feet rubbed, you can chill out with a 3D TV and exclusive tea and coffee services.
