For those who live in the hustle and bustle of the city, Discovery Bay may seem like a far and distant place disconnected from reality. Some may even compare them to the suburbs of America – since Discovery Bay residents have their very own international schools, they don\u2019t even have to leave the comfort of their little island! Even if you\u2019re not a resident there, it\u2019s still worth a visit to see how the other half lives in Hong Kong. Head over to Discovery Bay<\/a> this weekend for a chill day out!<\/span><\/p>\n

Put your walking boots on and hike over to Mui Wo<\/b><\/p>\n

The thought of a 2 hour hike may scare some city dwellers, but it\u2019s not as bad as it sounds. The hike from Discovery Bay to Mui Wo<\/a> is not designed to push yourself to the limits, but to provide a high vantage point and remind people of Hong Kong\u2019s beautiful nature. When you\u2019re constantly surrounded by tall skyscrapers, it\u2019s easy to lose yourself in the fast-paced life and forget that Hong Kong is a beautiful place.  When you arrive at Mui Wo, you can enjoy more nature by visiting the Silvermine Waterfall!<\/span><\/p>\n

Even without hot summer weather, you can laze around Tai Pak beach<\/a> and listen to the calming waves of the sea. You can even have a picnic there and keep your children entertained at the playground on the beach!<\/span><\/p>\n

If you get bored of lying on the beach and staring at the sky, you can grab a book at this vintage bookstore. Apparently the owner is an avid book collector and boasts his wide selection of rare books available in his bookshop. So if you\u2019re looking for a book that has stopped printing or got lost in the history of time, you\u2019ll probably find this hidden gem at Terry Boyce\u2019s bookshop<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fun fact:<\/b> Discovery Bay may seem predominated by expats, but the number of Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese residents almost matches up to the number of expat residents. There must be something special about Discovery Bay – maybe more and more Hong Kong people are searching a work life balance and looking to get away from it all.
